A small neighborhood with its own library, post office and school
Walteria is a neighborhood in south Torrance. Local descriptions place it along Pacific Coast Highway and west of Crenshaw Boulevard, although sources differ on its exact western and southern edges. It has its own branch of the Torrance Public Library, a Walteria post office on Pacific Coast Highway and Walteria Elementary School.
The land was once part of the old Rancho de los Palos Verdes. Our service area page has a short summary, and the nearby cities of Lomita and Rolling Hills Estates are nearby.
Lake Walteria and why drainage is worth asking about
The City of Torrance's own history records that in 1957 Lake Walteria overran stormwater sumps west of Anza Avenue and covered an area with three feet of water. The city says the flooding was not resolved until major storm drain construction over the following two decades.
That is history, not a forecast, and it says nothing about any one property today. It is a good reason to ask about drainage, though. A sump pump suits some low or poorly draining lots and not others, so we look at how water moves across your property before recommending anything.
Drainage and sump pumps
We check where water collects, how the yard slopes and whether water has reached the garage or house before suggesting a pump or a drain change.
Hidden leaks
A rising water bill with no visible cause is the usual first sign. A meter check and a leak survey find where the water is going.
Water heaters
Southern California water is hard, and scale builds up inside tank and tankless units. We read the label for the age and look at the base for rust.
Drains and sewer lines
A camera run shows what is slowing a drain, whether that is grease, roots or a damaged section.

Service details →Questions from Walteria residents
Yes. Walteria is a neighborhood inside the City of Torrance, in the south of the city. We cover it.
It depends on the lot and not on the neighborhood name. We look at where water collects, how the yard slopes and whether water has entered the house or garage. If a pump would not help, we will say so.
If it is coming from a pipe, shut off the main water valve. If it is rain runoff, call and describe what you see. Keep electrical items away from standing water.
Most of Torrance is on Torrance Municipal Water and some western blocks are served by California Water Service. Your bill names your utility.
